Guidelines

An open peer-reviewer assesses the quality and accuracy of an article being considered for publication. The review process aids publishers by ensuring data is accurate and holds significance for the scientific community. Traditionally, the peer review process is hidden from the public and the peer reviewer is not disclosed.

In an open review, your identity will be disclosed to the author of the article you are reviewing. Upon acceptance of that article for publishing, you will be credited alongside the author as a peer reviewer of their research.

In summary, the review process begins when an article matches your field and/or discipline concentration. You'll comment on the validity of the science, identify any errors, and evaluate the design and methodology used. You'll judge the significance of the article and the importance of any findings. You'll identify any missing or inaccurate references. After you've annotated the article with praise and/or criticism (with supporting evidence), the author will have the chance to incorporate revisions.

You can submit your recommendation to the editor for publication, publication with minor revisions, or publication with major revisions. We believe everyone should have a chance to publish, regardless of how much extra work they'll need to do to get there. Once revisions are applied, you will be notified in case you would like to review it again.

Step 1: Register as a Reviewer

To get started as an Open Peer-Reviewer you'll need to register with a valid Gmail or GSuite email address in order to access articles.

Step 2: Review Articles

You'll be able to select articles to review via the Open Peer-Review Board. Once you've assigned yourself an article, you and the author will be able to collaborate throughout the review process on Google Docs.

Step 3: Assessment & Commentary

Comments, feedback, and critical assessment of the research presented will not only help the author improve their research, but help further advance the subject-matter.

The author will use your feedback to ammend the article for publishing and ace the checklist. For previously published articles, your critical evaluation will be incorporated so that the material can be as up-to-date as possible!

Step 4: Apply Revisions

For new research (and active previous contributors), they will apply your feedback to their original article. The editorial team will then publish the newest version in its designated Theme.

For live articles, revisions can also be submitted via GitHub as a pull request!
